We have been meeting weekly to pray together for almost 15 years. This has produced good relationships, trust and practical results (i.e. Street Angels, Food Bank, Chaplaincy, special events such as the Easter Baptisms and Pentecost etc., Youth Workers praying and planning together, pastors having a place to receive prayer and support, other ministries given an audience).
New style unity groups like One Voice are now in many towns and cities in the UK. Some of them are ahead of us in various ways.
As the financial cut-backs hit the city we are being invited to consider what the city-wide church can do in terms of the public good and city transformation. But presently we are a loose connection of churches, leaders of churches and Christian ministries. Whilst our current state gives us flexibility, this structure is now not clear or efficient enough to rise to current opportunities and challenges. To be more effective there is a need for the church in York, across the denominations, to review this network we call One Voice, how we are structured, matters of membership, how it relates to Churches Together, etc.
The co-chairs of One Voice are inviting leaders of churches and Christian ministries/projects to a meeting on 16th July 2014 where they can present some questions and proposals, and hear yours.
The meeting will be in the Lower Hall, St Columba’s URC, Priory Street, York YO1 6EX at 9.30am after our normal prayer session.
Please put the date in your diary and come along. As well as this, pass the word on to colleagues who may not have received this email.
