York Evangelism Consulation

Recent landmark research of the UK population, Talking Jesus, shows that an increasing number of people have little understanding of who Jesus is – with four in ten not even being sure that Jesus was a real person who lived on earth.

Join us for York’s evangelism forum event on 22 June at St Paul’s Holgate (NOT AT the URC), which will provide the opportunity for you to:
•hear and reflect on the findings from the landmark Talking Jesus research, discussing your views and experiences with other leaders in York
•discuss together the challenges and opportunities for evangelism, both in York and in the wider UK
•share from your experience and discuss how we can equip and encourage Christians to effectively share the good news of Jesus in their everyday lives

The event will be facilitated by Richard Powney and Lucy Olofinjana from the Evangelical Alliance’s Unity for Mission team. They’re both keen to learn from the views, experiences and stories of leaders in York, and will value your input as they plan a website resource to inspire and equip UK churches in evangelism. Venue: St Paul’s Church, Holgate, 9:30am – 11:30am. Our usual Wed prayer meeting will be there too that day (7:45am – 8:45am).

More about Talking Jesus…
· Talking Jesus is a recent piece research, commissioned by the Evangelical Alliance, Church of England and HOPE, into the perceptions people in England have of Jesus, Christians and evangelism
· Encouraging news includes two-thirds of practising Christians having talked about Jesus with a non-Christian in the last month, and one in five non-Christians saying they are “open to an experience or encounter with Jesus” after speaking with a Christian about him.
· But there’s also more sobering news, with six in 10 of all English non-Christians having never had a conversation with a Christian about Jesus, and the same proportion of non-Christians not wanting to know more about Jesus following a conversation with a Christian about him.
