Members of YWAM York, (who set up the prayer room) David Casswell and Graham Hutchinson (co-chairs One Voice York) met with Bishop Martin Wallace, the Bishop of Selby to officially dedicate the new prayer room at the St Cuthberts Centre, Peasholme Green, York.
Bishop Martin said that coming into the presence of God was often like trying to catch a butterfly. If you try too hard it flies from you. If you are still, it might just come and land on your hand.
He hoped the prayer room would be used by those who wanted to be still with God and work on that relationship.
He also said he hoped that the room may prove a powerhouse to inspire new initiatives in the City of York. There are lots of good things happening, but everything would benefit by working closer together – a key aim of One Voice York.
Bishop Martin said he would like to see the churches training Christian hairdressers in counselling skills. Training Christian shop workers in communicating the gospel. In other words helping people at work in the City to better fulfil the opportunities open to them.
