A Pivotal Moment of Prayer

7th of the 7th of the 7th is one of those significant dates that only comes around once every thousand years, and as it was also the second anniversary of the London bombings, Churches Together and One Voice wanted to get together to pray.

The Lord Mayor offered the Guildhall as a venue. Along with the civic party, leaders and members of many churches met to pray in York’s historic Guildhall on Saturday 7th July 2007 from 11.30am to 12.30pm.

Graham Hutchinson, David Casswell, Chris Culwick and the new Chair of Churches Together, Father Pat Hartnet lead different times of prayer.

As we prayed over the city along with members of the student team from Summer Soul, we wrote prayers on paper hands and then laid them on the city.

As we remembered those who lost loved ones or were injured in the London bombings, we also thanked God for the recent deliverances our nation has had. We prayed for the peace of York too.

As we prayed for specific parts of the world we stuck ‘prayer pjns’ in a huge map.

We prayed prayers of repentance and agreement as we asked God for His kingdom to come in York as it is in heaven.

It is good not to let opportunities pass, and we didn’t miss this significant date. It was truly a special time to be together and seek the Lord.
