‘YES Below Zero is a new project in York to partner with the City of York Council, and the Salvation Army, to resource emergency accommodation for those sleeping rough during the winter season. The provision runs from 1st November - 28th February of the next year. The commitment is to either serve on an evening shift from 6pm- 12am, or on a morning shift from 7am- 9am. The evening shift involves arriving at about 5:45pm at the venue for emergency accommodation, receiving information about the guests to be hosted that night, and then attending to the necessary paperwork with each guest as required. Then a meal is provided to the guests (at about 7pm). The remainder of the time is to provide company, and any assistance. There is then a handover at 12am. The morning shift will require making sure the guests wake up, providing breakfast (toast and cereal), signposting the guests to the next step, and then cleaning up the venue. Volunteering is very straightforward. If you would like to get involved, please contact us via our contact page.’
