home for good in york

On Monday June 23rd Krish Kandiah of the Evangelical Alliance came to York for a great event at York St John University to launch a call to the churches to help the 800 children in need of fostering/adoption in the Yorkshire and Humberside regions.

We were joined by Kersten England CEO of City of York Council, Graham Hutchinson Co-chair of One Voice (sponsors of the event) and Fr Terence Richardson, Prior of Ampleforth Abbey (himself an adopted son).

Krish talked to us about adoption being central to the Christian gospel and a number of foster carers/ adopters in the area talked about the joy these children have brought into their lives. The evening was inspiring and left us with an interesting statistic: the UK currently needs 6000 extra foster carers and 9000 families who will adopt – the Evangelical Alliance is in touch with 15000 churches – that is just one family per church!
